Colectivo Cihuateotl is an autonomous community centered organization deeply committed to empowering Black, Indigenous, Queer, Trans, Womxn, Femmes, Gender Expansive and or Gender Non-Conforming Folks of Color as they free themselves from deep seated colonial mentality, break cycles of internalized oppression and heal generations of trauma.

Through various creative mediums, wellness offerings, and a lifestyle brand, Colectivo Cihuateotl centers radical healing and revolutionary love as a means for our personal and collective liberation.

OUR WORK

Our work consists of wellness offerings, art programming and cultural production. The offerings include Guidance Sessions, Community Care Circles, Wellness Workshops, and Healing Retreats. Art programming consists of Visionaries Reading Group, Medicina Open Mic, Ticiyotl Art Exhibit, and Papalotl Fashion Show. Cultural production entails original short films, a radio podcast and an annual zine publication.

CIHUATEOTL

Cihuateotl is a mesoamerican dieti - an embodiment of the cyclical process of death and creation. They are celestial beings who live in the West - Cihuatlampa and serve as conduits between the physical and spiritual realms. Cihuateotl is used to translate Femme Goddess to nahuatl. While Cihuatl most commonly translates to woman, I reclaim and expand our understanding of Cihuatl to embody feminine energy - that which we all have within us no matter of our gender identity. Teotl translate to god, in this case goddess. The spirit of Colectivo Cihuateotl embodies this energia.

Medicina is a healing space created with the intention of coming together to honor and uplift featured artists alongside community members who choose to share their gifts.

It is a gathering which centers poetry, music, storytelling, visual arts and healing practices - exploring themes of resilience, resistance and rebirth. This intentionally curated space fosters open dialogue encouraging intimate vulnerability, profound connection and collaborative dreaming. Through personal and collective reflections, Medicina offers an invitation into a revolutionary journey.

Art is medicine - a powerful, transformative force. As creative beings, our spirits long for this sacred practice of remembering, releasing, reclaiming and reenvisioning. When practiced and shared, it becomes a portal towards sanación y liberación through which we can radically imagine a new world. Let our palabras land softly in our hearts and echo loudly across all the direcciones.

Andrea Galvez is a Los Angeles painter and digital artist who expresses herself through visionary work. Inspired by her Mexican/indigenous roots, she expresses herself through the use of bright colors, faceless figures, and nature. Through Andrea’s creative journey, she also invites the viewers to explore their inner light source and to return back home to their heart. Andrea believes that art has a way of doing this.

Through this retreat you will be guided to see your reflection in the “smoking mirror” encouraging you to delve into deep introspection. By looking within, you will unveil susto/trauma - providing an opportunity to tend to your wounds, confront your shadows and envision a path towards healing.

The intention is to cultivate deep self-awareness, develop your critical consciousness, hold space collectively and walk away with both newfound wisdom and tangible tools to support you in your journey. We will do this through reflection questions, knowledge sharing, guided activities and heart-centered platicas.

Soy cihuateotl. La diosa que se murió en dando a luz, pero a una nueva yo.

Tantos momentos que mi ser humana a sentido que nomas ya no podía. Que no podía seguir. Que no había salida. Que nunca lo lograría.

Pero mi espiritu sabe, siempre a sabido. Aunque esté cansado y muchas veces desanimado, se firmemente que este es mi propósito. This is my life’s work.

No lo puedo expresar todo ahorita. Pero espero que esto sea el comienzo.

No es como lo imaginaba pero ya basta. No quiero seguir siendo esclavo de mi misma. Ya no.

Te he extrañado demasiado… Se me caen las lagrimas escribiendo esto. Tu puedes y lo estás haciendo.

Se que has sufrido muchísimo y no ha sido nada fácil caminar este camino de sanacion. Sanando a tu niña interior, tu lineage, tus ancestros.

Ahy dio mío, this is hard. Me sentí inspirada y con tantas ganas de por fin liberarme - como me ha pasado antes, aunque después no logro hacerlo, pero esta ves… tiene que ser diferente. Ya - Aviéntate. Hazlo.

Soy más mi ser superior, aunque sigo peleando con diferentes versiones de mi.

Me he encontrado perdida en la oscuridad. Atrapada en un ciclo que nomas no podía quebrar. He visto la reflexión en todo mi alrededor. Me he tenido que ver en el espejo obsidiano. Solo yo me puedo salvar de mi misma.

Luchando sola. Tending to mi bienestar a travez de la comunidad. Buscando apoyo ancestral. Regresando a prácticas indígenas para curarme. Haciendo lo que vine a hacer en este mundo - sanar. Pero no basta sanar, si no VIVIR también.

Partes de mi que se han muerto poco a poco - que no he podido dejar morir por completo. La razón por cuál nomas no e llegado. Pero para renacer, se tiene que morir.

He sido recordada una y otra ves que todo es un proceso y lo que yo busco nunca va a llegar - hasta que esté dispuesta a dejar todo ir, to surrender completely. Y a la misma ves honrar mi camino y crear una nueva realidad.

Este es mi renacimiento. Nuevamente entierro las partes de mi que intentan protegerme que en ves me an hecho más daño. Dejo ir todo lo que me detiene. Todo lo que no me pertenece. Y más que nada, evito seguir sacando esas partes de mi de la tierra y por fin dejarlas descansar para poder alcanzar a mi ser más alto.

Estoy por fin quebrando de esta piel y saliendo de la cueva en la cual me he encontrado por años.

He sentido que parte de mi lo dejé atrás, queriendo regresar a reencontrarme. Pero ese mismo ser me a detenido. Entonces esta soy yo llamándola y dejándola saber que no voy a regresar por ella, en ves I reintroduce her to the new me. Meeting me where I am - aquí y ahora.

Jenny Viveros, LCSW is a Latin Burlesque dance instructor and Licensed Clinical Social Worker. Her focus is on the art form of sensuality. She combines her strength of women empowerment and dance in order to tap into each woman’s unique feminine energy.

Adoración is an ode to our bodies as sacred vessels. Intentionally adorning our bodies is a form of ritual, a sacred practice, a ceremony. One through which our cuerpos become altares.

What to expect:

In this 3 hour experience, we will begin with intention setting and creating a safe space while grounding us in our purpose. We will then warm up to some banda canciones and learn a new chair dance routine led by @latin_burlesque. No need to have prior dance background!

1 glass of champagne or non alcoholic beverage and appetizers will be provided.

Play dress up and shop intentional pieces by @adoracionlifestylebrand and prepare to capture yourself at a self portrait booth.

What to bring: An outfit that taps into your sensual being and makes you feel powerful. Thigh highs, fish nets, boots, and hat encouraged - you can be as creative as you want.

Breaking free from the confines of perfectionism is a step towards liberation. Divesting from perfectionism is a liberatory act that allows us to be our wholehearted selves and embrace the fullness of our humanity.
